This page is a little bit of information for those people that have never played on a MUX before. It explains what we are and how to play our game.
What exactly is a MUX?
A MUX is an text-based online multiplayer role-play game. Still confused? You might recall the old text-based adventures that come out in the 80’s where you could walk about the game by typing 'NORTH', 'SOUTH', 'EAST' or 'WEST.' Where you could pick up items and use them if you could figure out the appropriate command. A MUX works along the same principles, except that there is another player behind the other characters that you meet and interact with in the game.
The History of MUX’s.
The first type of games that became popular through this system was the MUD (A Multi-User Dimension.) These were extremely similar to the original computer games, including having monsters and other creatures that would react to your character’s presence, often attacking. MUD’s are often very combat orientated in their outlook on things. Soon a second group of games started, the MUSH (Multi-User Shared Hallucination.) These games have far less rules and are often fully Role-play with no combat systems or stated characters. They general have only a little code, and player basically create their own action with their imaginations. There then come the third type of game system, the MUX. MUX’s are Multi-User Crosses, that is a cross between the Role-play and freedom of the MUSH and the excitement and combat found on the MUD. This is where Loki’s Hammer fits. Our character’s are stated and combat enabled, but the environment is designed to encourage good Role-play and creativity.
Do I need anything special to join?
Yes and no. Because our game works over Telnet you will need a telnet client. Windows does come with its own telnet client, however, this isn’t that great and requires a lot of patience to use, so I would recommend one of the following. For a Windows computer, MUSHclient, SimpleMU* or Z-MUD are excellent clients. Each has their own benefits and different people prefer different ones. For an Apple computer you can use MUDDweller, Rapscallion or Savitar. Both of these last two are shareware trial programs, and will cost a little to register, but then if you are going to be using it for a while, I’d suggest that you buy any client you decide to use.
How do I connect?
This varies from client to client, however, the information you will need to add when creating a new world is;
game-name lokishammer.dragon-rider.org and port 1515.
Once you have set up your new world, activate it (or if you are using the Windows Telnet Client, simply click on the "Connect Now" Navigation button or the "Connect" menu Option) and wait until you see the following screen.

You will then need to log into the game as a guest using;
